The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) created AS9000 in 1997 to address the needs of the aerospace industry. In 2001, AS9100 was published in order to align with the ISO 9001:2000 standard. Now managed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (ISQC), AS9100 is now approved by aerospace companies in Europe and Asia.
