Belt Manufacturer Gates Corporation Goes from Green to Black

All it takes is a quick glance at the automotive belt manufacturer’s sparkling plant, with everything in its place, and a brief conversation with inspired employees to witness their commitment to improve quality, delivery times, and reduce costs.

Now that commitment is quantified. Partnering with the NC State University Industrial Extension Service (IES), Gates' continuous improvement processes have yielded more than $1 million in economic benefit. The company received NC State’s 1B4NC award that recognizes the results achieved by creatively combining lean production methods with Six Sigma processes.
