5S Visual Systems / Standardized Work
1 day(s)
, 7 instructional hours
7 Engineering Professional Development Hours (PDHs)
About This Event:
-
Lean manufacturing makes it possible for workers to produce high-quality products quickly and consistently. The 5S Visual Systems approach gives workers exactly what they need to perform each specific task -- and gives them a renewed sense of pride in their workplace and individual performance. Standardized Work is the foundation for building your future success, as it ensures consistent results and establishes a baseline for future improvement. As Taiichi Ohno, one of the pioneers of lean manufacturing, said, "Where there is no standard, there can be no kaizen" -- that is, no improvement. These back-to-back workshops provide in-depth instruction in two vital elements of lean operations and continuous improvement.
Recommended For:
-
These workshops are recommended for the people who designed your front-line production systems and the people with the authority to improve them. That may be your CEO or general manager, but more likely it will be a plant manager or production engineer. Regardless, we recommend they bring along a shop foreman and several line workers, since they're more likely to know how your systems really work -- as opposed to how they're supposed to work or how you think they work.
You Will:
-
Become familiar with the 5S system and the importance of each element
Learn how to create a visual management system in your workplace
Develop a process to quickly involve employees in improvement activity and increase employee morale
Review the elements of standardized work: takt time, work sequence, and work-in-process
Learn how to develop a process that eliminates walking, reduces waste and improves quality and productivity.
