Industrial personnel and environmental consultants often have to determine if a company is in compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) laws and regulations. This workshop presents an overview of fundamental environmental regulations providing information on federal and state regulations, applicability triggers (with which facilities have to comply) and a summary of the requirements for each rule.

Wendy Laing, CSP, is an Environmental Health and Safety Extension Specialist with the NCSU Industrial Extension Service. Since joining the IES staff in October 2000, Ms. Laing develops and assists in implementing EH&S programs to public agencies and manufacturers in NC.
Prior to joining the IES staff, Ms. Laing was employed as a Safety & Health Services Manager for a local biotechnology firm. She was responsible for managing the safety and health program, including OSHA compliant programs and safety training, Safety Committees, customer safety programs, and the occupational health services program. She was also responsible for submitting the EPA SARA Title III Reports including Tier II Hazardous Chemical Inventory and Form R Toxic Release Inventory. She managed the OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Plan programs. She also chaired the Franklin County LEPC.
Charlie Parrish, P.E., is an environmental engineering specialist at NC State University Industrial Extension Service (IES). Since joining IES in July of 1998, he has worked on a variety of environmental programs including air quality permitting, emissions testing, water quality assessments, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System development, industrial waste minimization assessments, energy surveys, health and safety assessments, environmental compliance assessments, and other areas. Prior to working at IES, he worked for SAIC where his responsibilities included air permitting, air emissions inventories, mobile source emissions modeling, and development of regulatory guidance documents and software tools. Much of his experience has focused on field and laboratory measurements for air quality, industrial hygiene, water quality, and other environmental disciplines. Mr. Parrish has a bachelor's in biology (1978) from San Diego State University and a master's in environmental engineering (1989) from Virginia Tech University.
