About This Event:

If your responsibilities require you to work within a hazadous waste site, OSHA requires you to be familiar with methods and procedures to protect yourself and others from the safety and health risks of hazardous materials. This workshop provides an opportunity for hands-on skills development and is designed to meet OSHA's training requirements for the HAZWOPER standard -- 29 CFR 1910.120 paragraphs (b) through (o) for hazardous waste site workers.

This event is designed for personnel (i.e., environmental contractors and consultants, regulatory agency personnel, private-sector project managers) routinely involved in the investigation and remediation of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites including Superfund sites, RCRA corrective action sites or voluntary cleanups sites.
You Will:

Identify and practice methods and procedures for recognizing, evaluating and controlling hazardous substances
Identify concepts, principles, and guidelines to properly protect personnel and the surrounding environment
Select and use appropriate protective equipment -- including respirators, protective suits, boots and gloves

Hazard awareness, recognition, and identification
Site safety and control
Work plans and safety & health plans
Medical monitoring
Personal protective equipment selection, care, and use
Monitoring and sampling equipment
Confinement, control, and cleanup
Decontamination procedures
Incident command
Emergency response planning

This course involves the use of respirators and chemical protective clothing, which may be stressful to certain individuals. Participation in these exercises is not required, but attendance is. If you are not currently participating in a medical surveillance program, you should consult your physician before attending this event.
