About This Event:

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) is a complex regulation. This course will provide a review of the basics for all generators, then go beyond the basics to further examine identification of hazardous wastes, Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR), contingency plans, reporting, and air emissions of wastes. Understanding will be advanced through examples and exercises.

This event is designed for generators of hazardous wastes who are thoroughly familiar with the basics of the waste regulations and wish to further their knowledge of those regulations. Attendees should have had the basic "Hazardous Waste Management for Generators" course prior to attending this one.

Meet the RCRA requirement for annual training for hazardous waste generators
Practice identifying hazardous wastes and assigning waste codes based on test analyses
Learn how to assign and understand LDR requirements
Learn how to write contingency plans and what they should include
Understand reporting requirements for large quantity generators
Understand Subpart CC air emission requirements for hazardous wastes
Participate in exercises designed to generate understanding of hazardous waste requirements beyond the basics

Charlie Parrish, P.E., is an environmental engineering specialist for IES. He has assisted NC manufacturers in environmental areas including ISO 14001 assistance, air quality permitting, environmental compliance auditing (multi-media), emissions testing, TSCA compliance, water quality assessments, industrial waste minimization assessments, energy surveys, and health and safety assessments & training. Mr. Parrish is an ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor and a Plexus Trainer/Coach, and has assisted over 30 companies in developing their Environmental Management System (EMS) to qualify for ISO 14001 certification. Mr. Parrish also teaches ISO 14001 Internal Auditing, and coordinated the EPA Region IV Hazardous Waste Training Institute at NCSU over the past 2 years.
Michael "Mac" McNulty is an environmental, health and safety extension specialist. He provides hazardous waste operations, emergency response and incident spill response education, training, exercise evaluations, and program development to North Carolina businesses and local, state and federal agencies. Over the past year, Mr. McNulty provided initial and refresher training to the HazMat spill teams at manufacturers in Wilmington, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh, saving them $250 thousand to $5 million in insurance costs.
