Hazardous Waste Management for Generators Refresher

About This Event:

According to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), generators of hazardous waste are required to have annual training. This event is offered for those generators who have familiarity with the hazardous waste regulations but must still meet their annual training requirements. You will receive a manual prepared for North Carolina hazardous waste generators and a 40 CFR Parts 260-265 as part of the course materials.

This course is designed for generators of hazardous waste who have experience and familiarity with the RCRA regulation requirements. Topics will be reviewed through scenarios and exercises. NOTE: This is NOT a course for those who are beginners to hazardous waste regulations.
You Will:

Practice identification of hazardous waste and determination of waste codes
Examine ways to manage hazardous wastes
Practice preparation of hazardous wastes for shipping through choices of marking, labeling and manifesting
Review contingency plan and recordkeeping requirements
Examine ways to manage used oil and universal wastes
Review possible penalties and liabilities that could be incurred by violators

Instructor(s):

Charlie Parrish, P.E., is an environmental engineering specialist at NC State University Industrial Extension Service (IES). Since joining IES in July of 1998, he has worked on a variety of environmental programs including air quality permitting, emissions testing, water quality assessments, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System development, industrial waste minimization assessments, energy surveys, health and safety assessments, environmental compliance assessments, and other areas. Prior to working at IES, he worked for SAIC where his responsibilities included air permitting, air emissions inventories, mobile source emissions modeling, and development of regulatory guidance documents and software tools. Much of his experience has focused on field and laboratory measurements for air quality, industrial hygiene, water quality, and other environmental disciplines. Mr. Parrish has a bachelor's in biology (1978) from San Diego State University and a master's in environmental engineering (1989) from Virginia Tech University.
