About This Event:

In today's competitive business world, organizations are taking on an increasing number of projects. Unfortunately, many of these organizations don't have skilled project managers. This course will provide project managers and project team members with the fundamental tools to ensure successful project teams.
While this course is aligned with the Project Management Institute's body of knowledge, it is not designed to prepare participants to become certified in project management.

This course will benefit anyone who is currently working on projects or will be working on projects and would like to learn the fundamental tools for successfully managing projects. This course is also a good refresher course for those who have had project management training.
You Will:

Learn how to effectively manage projects to meet objectives, scope, schedule, and budget.
Learn how to prepare a project charter and/or project A3.
Learn how to develop a work breakdown structure and network diagram and calculate critical path.
Learn how to identify and evaluate project risks.
Understand the earned value analysis tool.
Learn the value of establishing and maintaining effective project teams.
Topics Covered Include:

Definition of project management.
Phases of project management.
Define the problem and prepare the project charter including objectives and scope, key assumptions and constraints, risks and resolutions, budget, milestones, deliverables, success criteria, and approvals.
Plan the project and establish the project team, define requirements, develop the work breakdown structure, determine activity sequencing and estimate activity durations, develop the project schedule, calculate critical path, and formalize the project budget.
Execute the plan and coordinate team activities, manage project scope, coordinate scheduled tasks and assignments, manage documentation, and manage variances to plan.
Monitor & Control and conduct earned value analysis to identify potential budget, resources, and schedule problems; develop problem escalation process; facilitate effective and efficient team meetings; and manage communications.
Close Out the project and conduct the final project review with stakeholders and customers, obtain customer acceptance, conduct lessons learned analysis, complete project documentation and the final report, replicate and improve, and celebrate.
Instructor(s):

Project management facilitators from the NC State University Industrial Extension Service. Each facilitator is an experienced project manager with managment systems, and organizational development facilitation skills. NCSU-IES facilitators have assisted many companies with the training and implementation of product and process management activities such as lean manufacturing, six sigma, and quality systems.
