On October 24-25, 2007, business leaders from across North Carolina gathered in Cary for the 2007 North Carolina Conference for Excellence. The conference featured several keynote speakers, including Doug Hall, founder of the Eureka! Ranch. Hall’s address, “Jump Start Your Brain,” helped participants find smart, creative ways to ignite more sales, smarter marketing, and breakthrough innovation successes. Conference attendees also attended a reception and book signing for Hall’s book Jump Start Your Business Brain.
Other keynotes included Dr. Steve Cline, NC Deputy State Health Director, who gave an overview of health status and trends in North Carolina as well as the challenges we face as we focus on the next steps to a healthier state; Tony Johnson, plant manager for Baxter Healthcare, who described Baxter’s lean journey; and Joe Page, Continuous Improvement Consultant for Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation, who described his company’s successful combination of Baldrige and 6 Sigma. Each of these keynote addresses provided conference attendees with valuable information on ways to increase business wealth; how to use Baldrige, lean, and Six Sigma to improve productivity and reduce costs; and best practices and practical tips from manufacturing, healthcare, and service sectors.
North Carolina Shingo Prize and North Carolina Awards for Excellence winners were also honored at an awards ceremony and luncheon. These winners included companies in healthcare, education, business, government, and manufacturing. Conference attendees learned and asked questions about these organizations’ continuous improvement journeys. Attendees were also able to find out more out these state-level awards programs.
