Looking at Manufacturing as a System

No Comments | by Gray Rinehart |

In the latest Manufacturing Minute -- "about a minute, about manufacturing" -- we apply some basic systems thinking to manufacturing.

What do we mean by a system? A system is a set of interconnected parts that work together for some common aim. Whatever you're looking at this blog post on is itself a system, i.e., a set of parts that work together for the common aim of delivering this and other content. In this episode, we apply that idea to factories, where all the parts of the process from receiving to assembly to shipping -- and including everything from maintenance to marketing to human resources -- should work together for the common aim of delivering quality goods to customers.

We hope folks are enjoying these little videos, and we welcome comments, questions, or suggestions for future topics at themfgminute AT ncsu.edu.
