Team work has become an essential component of the work place due to issues organizations face in today's world. Flatter organizational structures require that people be more interdependent on each other to achieve goals. Continuous improvement and providing great customer service require that cross-functional teams form to solve problems. Employees want to be involved in decision making that will impact their jobs, and participating on teams allows that to happen. Teams are also a rapid way to tackle issues or address market changes while creating a learning environment.

Although many of us know team skills either from formal training or from the experience of working on a team, we often don’t apply what we have learned in any disciplined way.
