24-Hour HAZWOPER for Hazardous Waste Site Workers

About This Course:
This course meets the off-site training requirements of OSHA’s HAZWOPER Standard – specifically 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(ii) and (e)(3)(iii); and 29 CFR 1926.65(e)(3)(ii) and (e)(3)(iii)      for those personnel who work at hazardous waste sites only occasionally for specific limited tasks; and who are unlikely to be exposed over permissible exposure limits and published exposure limits; and workers regularly on site who work in areas in which exposures are under permissible exposure limits and published exposure limits where respirators are not necessary and there are no health hazards or the possibility of an emergency developing.

 

Recommended for:
Personnel who may need to enter hazardous waste sites where minimum exposure levels are expected (such as personnel performing ground water monitoring, land surveying, or geo-physical surveying).  Please note that this course is designed for hazardous waste site workers and NOT for emergency response personnel.  This course DOES NOT meet the requirements of the 24-hour Hazardous Materials Technician for Emergency Response course stipulated in 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(iii) and 29 CFR 1926.65(q)(6)(iii).

 

Participants will:

  • Receive training as required by 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(ii) and (e)(3)(iii); and 29 CFR 1926.65(e)(3)(ii) and (e)(3)(iii)
  • Employ critical thinking skills and demonstrate practical abilities in regard to working at hazardous waste sites

 

Topics include:

  • Environmental laws and regulations
  • Work plans; and safety and health plans
  • Hazard awareness, recognition, and identification
  • Personal protective equipment selection, care, and use
  • Medical monitoring
  • Monitoring and sampling equipment
  • Decontamination procedures

 

Additional Information:
Participants should dress comfortably for outdoor training evolutions and wear closed-toe shoes. During some exercises, participants may wear chemical protective clothing that may lead to stressful situations for certain individuals.  The wearing of chemical protective clothing is not required, however full attendance in the class is required for successful course completion. Individuals who are not currently participating in a medical surveillance program should consult their physician before attending this course.
