When Sparks Fly

Sparks fly, especially around the month of July, and we’re not talking about the Taylor Swift song kind of sparks! We’re talking pyrotechnics. It is important to stay safe when handling fireworks, regardless of whether you are in the business of selling them or lighting up the sky with them. There are tips available for Retail Fireworks Sales and for Display Operators, along with other great pyrotechnic industry resources on OSHA’s website. Additionally, there is a great informational video available:

Presenting NEW General Industry PowerPoints FOOTnotes

There are new PowerPoints available on OSHA’s website covering 13 different topics. The PowerPoints can be downloaded for free by clicking on the following link:

https://www.osha.gov/dte/outreach/construction_generalindustry/gi_outreach_tp.html

The PowerPoints do not cover standards, but rather go over potential hazards and implementing controls to prevent accidents from occurring. All materials can be downloaded in a zip folder for trainers authorized through the Southeastern OTI Education Center by logging into the Resource section of the Trainer Portal and expanding the General Industry folder.

A picture is worth a thousand words, what about a video?

When a video is helping workers to understand their rights,  and how to file a complaint if those rights are violated, it’s priceless.  Check out these quick videos on the rights of workers:

You can find more information about your rights as a worker and how to file a complaint, as well as a list of commonly asked questions, by visiting osha.gov.
