Disaster Site Worker Trainer Course

 

3.5 Days, 24 Instructional Hours
24 MESH Hours (Manager of Environmental Safety and Health)
24 PDHs (Professional Development Hours for Engineers)

 

About This Course:
Successful completion of this course results in participants becoming OSHA-authorized trainers in OSHA’s Disaster Site Worker Outreach Training program. This course is intended for experienced OSHA Outreach Trainers to instruct the OSHA #7600 Disaster Site Worker Course to second responders–those arriving hours or days after a natural or man-made disaster event who provide skilled support services or site clean-up services.

 

Participants are provided the opportunity to practice knowledge and skills through discussion, planned exercises, demonstrations, and presentations. Lesson plans and training materials for the OSHA #7600 Disaster Site Worker Course are provided.  Participants must prepare a presentation on an assigned disaster site worker topic individually or as part of a group.

 

Prerequisites:
The following 3 items must be submitted to OTIprerequisite@ncsu.edu in order to confirm eligibility for this course:

 

1.  A copy of the current Outreach Trainer card for Construction or General Industry (or an official transcript from the authorizing OSHA Training Institute Education Center showing successful completion of the OSHA #500 or OSHA #501 course or applicable update course)

2. A copy of a 40-hour HAZWOPER course completion certificate (or proof of other journey level credentials)

3. A completed and signed Prerequisite Verification Form detailing 3 years of safety training experience.

Recommended for:
Experienced OSHA Outreach Trainers interested in teaching the OSHA #7600 Disaster Site Worker Course to second responders, employees and/or other interested groups.

 

Participants will:
  • Apply adult learning principles and training techniques
  • Identify, define, and explain safety and health hazards on a disaster site and provide acceptable corrective measures to reduce the potential for injury or illness
  • Teach OSHA #7600 Disaster Site Worker courses

  • National Response Framework
  • The Incident Command System
  • Disaster work zone safety
  • Respiratory protection
  • Communication issues
  • Elements of successful adult training programs
  • Safety and health standards at natural and human-made disaster sites
Additional Information:
Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #5602 Update for Disaster Site Worker Trainer course at least every four (4) years to maintain their Outreach Training Program trainer authorization.
