Steven Hughes is the director of business development & management of NC State University Industry Expansion Solutions (IES). His role at IES is to lead and supervise the team of regional managers along with functioning as a member of the IES Core Leadership Team. Steven has over 15 years of sales and business development experience. Steven has a B.S. in operations management from Virginia Tech University and an MBA from Elon University. He also holds a certificate in Lean Six Sigma and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Steven is also a retired officer of the US Military. Steven was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor for his combat actions in Iraq in 2004. Before joining IES, Steven was a business director leading the development and performance of 14 sales account executives across seven states. In this position, he was responsible for the sales planning, as well as the profit and loss of $60 Million dollars annually as well as the business plan and forecasting of sales each year. Steven also has served in manufacturing roles running a large manufacturing department for Burlington Industries. Outside of his work, Steven enjoys watching and participating in sports, including playing golf with his spouse. Steven supports various church and community activities in the Elon, NC area. He is actively involved in a local non-profit organization North Carolina Project Management Institute (NC PMI) Triad chapter serving as vice president of marketing and communications. Steven is an adjunct instructor at Alamance Community College serving since 2005. He teaches such business classes as marketing, customer service, organization management and business management. He also serves on the Alamance Community College Business Advisory Board.
