A Letter from the Director

As we conclude 2020, I am hopeful for the opportunities and change in the upcoming year. We have faced challenges this year and have shifted our work processes while implementing sustainable solutions. The learning never stops, so let’s prepare for 2021 together.

  • Stay vigilant as we enter the holiday and winter season. Protect yourself, your peers and family from COVID-19.
  • We have successfully modified most of our classroom courses into a virtual environment and will continue to offer these courses virtually throughout the first quarter of 2021.
  • I have learned the critical importance of relevant and timely communication. Consider focusing on perfecting your leadership skills by participating in a virtual certificate program launching February 2021: Leadership Essentials for Frontline Leaders
  • OSHA has published a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on how N95 respirators effectively protect wearers from coronavirus exposure. OSHA is aware of incorrect claims stating that N95 respirator filters do not capture particles as small as the virus that causes the coronavirus. OSHA’s new FAQ explains why an N95 respirator is effective at protecting users from the virus.

I hope to “see” you online or in the classroom in the coming months. Thank you for your partnership in 2020.

Stay well and hopeful,

Wendy Laing

A Letter from the Director

The campus reactivation and return to school was very different this fall, and we are continuing to learn and shift work and family activities to ensure our safety and wellbeing. The return of cooler nights and the coming fall foliage helps to bring a bit of comfort in an otherwise changing environment. As you prepare for the coming season, keep the following updates in mind:

  • For the remainder of the calendar year, most of our open enrollment courses have shifted to a virtual instructor led training (VILT) environment. Check out our schedule and join us, as our instructors and participants are very pleased with this alternative form of instruction!
  • The National Fall Prevention Stand Down is scheduled for September 14–18, 2020. This is a dedicated time to stop work and discuss methods to prevent a fall and an injury or fatality. Numerous resources are available on OSHA’s website.
  • If you work for a NC manufacturer, you may qualify for funded services, including safety assessments, to improve your competitiveness as the market adapts to the COVID-19 disruption. Take our survey to determine your eligibility.

Wishing you comfort and safety this fall season,

Wendy Laing
