Save The Date: MFGDAY 2021

MFGDAY is scheduled for October 1, 2021. This annual event celebrating manufacturing is held on the first Friday of October although any day can be MFGDAY. By hosting an event on MFGDAY, you can share your company’s story with your community and showcase your products and processes through tours and presentations. MFGDAY events are also an excellent way to inspire the future workforce by hosting student groups. Students will learn about what modern manufacturing is and isn’t and explore manufacturing as a career opportunity. Events can be in-person or virtual.

Timeout for Quality

Join us for our upcoming Timeout for Quality discussion session on Thursday, June 10 at 9 a.m. or Thursday, June 24 at 9 a.m.! The sessions will be hosted by NC State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES) Quality Team. These free, 30-minute sessions are open forums so whether you want to inquire about quality topics (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100) or just want to pop in and say “Hello!” all are welcome!

COVID-19 Vaccination Tax Credit Now Available for Manufacturers

To support businesses and their employees, a tax credit is being provided for small and medium-sized businesses to fully offset the cost of paid leave for employees to get vaccinated and recover from any after-effects of vaccination. The American Rescue Plan—signed into law on March 11, 2021—provides a paid leave tax credit to offset the cost for businesses with fewer than 500 employees for up to 80 hours (i.e. 10 workdays) up to $511 per day of paid sick leave offered between April 1 and September 30, 2021.

Long-Time MSC Director St. Louis Awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine

The former director of North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership partner Catawba Valley Community College’s Manufacturing Solutions Center (MSC), Dan St. Louis was presented with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine on Friday, May 3, 2021, by Governor Roy Cooper. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine award is the highest award for state service granted by the Office of the Governor of North Carolina.

CVCC’s Manufacturing Center Officially Breaks Ground on New Facility

North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership partner, Catawba Valley Community College’s Manufacturing Solutions Center (MSC), held a groundbreaking ceremony in Conover on Friday, May 3, 2021 for their two-story 30,000-square foot facility. The new facility includes MSC’s structural engineering, a fabric formation lab, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)/Textile Resource Lab and conference and meeting rooms to support economic development.
